Founded by shelter vets
Los Compas was started in response to the overwhelming need for low-cost vet care for animal welfare groups in NYC. Our goal is to enable fosters to take on behaviorally challenging and medically compromised animals, improving their chances of adoption and reducing the workload for shelter employees.
From severe allergies to separation anxiety, many rescues struggle to meet the medical and behavioral needs of the animals they take in. Los Compas partners with animal welfare organizations to provide expert support, empowering them to help the most vulnerable animals within the shelter system. Our unique house-call model removes the need for trips to the vet, allowing fosters to care for their animals on a schedule that works for them.
Our Services
This service provides flexible, in-home access to essential veterinary services, including physical exams, vaccinations, deworming, and routine bloodwork and screening tests.
Wellness Care
This service provides short-term care for acute conditions, including post-operative rehabilitation for orthopedic procedures. It may also be utilized to isolate animals with contagious diseases such as panleukopenia, parvovirus, and ringworm.
Acute Care
This service is intended for long-term management of chronic conditions such as atopy, endocrinopathies, and arthritis. Behavior management and hospice care also fall under the scope of this program, allowing shelters and rescues to accept animals that would otherwise be turned away due to lack of nursing care or behavior concerns.
